We spoke exclusively to co-founder Anita Kaushal to learn more about the Mauli Rituals heritage and why the products deserve pride of place in your collection.

Question: To those who discover Mauli Rituals for the first time, what makes the brand so unique?

Answer:

There are so many superb eco-luxe brands out there and I view them all with appreciation and respect. That said, I’m mindful not to look at other brands in any detail, as it might sub-consciously take us away from our essence.

We fuse Ayurvedic wisdom from India, with a sense of British refinement, with natural products made in England.

Ours is a celebration love, nature, tradition and all that makes like meaningful and worth honouring and Mauli is the story of all those who are part of the thread that is offered with a wish for your wellbeing.

Question: When did you discover that you and Bittu were destined to be business partners?

Answer:

As native Brits of Indian origin, my husband and I enjoyed careers in skincare distribution and ‘white label’ branding respectively. I had been brought up to appreciate holistic health and my father-in-law happens to be an exceptional Ayurvedic doctor and the embodiment of true health. We took all this for granted, until a life changing event compelled us re-think how we wanted to spend our days.

The deeper we delved in to our heritage, the power of India’s herbs and Vedic traditions; the more we knew we had to follow our passion. In honesty, we did not focus on the commercials, write plans or see the trend for wellbeing and Ayurveda coming. We just put one foot in front of the other and hoped for the best. Mauli Rituals was a labour of love and we had faith it would resonate with those who appreciated genuine quality and the power of nature.

Question: How can you see your products impact on the charities you partner with?

Answer:

We give £1 of each product sold from our website to children’s charities across the UK and India. Last year we were able to fund a classroom in Rajasthan.

Question: How do you select the ingredients that are used in the Mauli formulas?

Answer:

In creating Mauli, we set our expectations high. Having worked closely with manufacturers and retailers of premium skincare gave us an insight into superb synthetic products that delivered promising results. On the other end of the scale, we were familiar with natural beauty and wellbeing products from India, but these lacked the texture, scent and application we had come to expect.

For Mauli, we sourced the most opulent and efficacious natural ingredients for inner balance and outer radiance, because we believe one can’t truly exist without the other.

Every single ingredient is chosen for its benefits to mind, body and soul as a unified whole. Beyond this, we work with growers who are soil association approved and in choosing ingredients consider environmental factors as much as anything else. Our star ingredients are Amla (Indian gooseberry) –  which contains 20 times more vitamin C than an orange – powerful adaptogen tumeric, and moringa, for is exceptionally high active content. Our sumptuous essential oils include jasmine sambac, vetiver, rose, and frankincense.

Question: Describe the ultimate Mauli Rituals Evening Routine

Answer:

This gentle realignment of self can be experienced through the senses and healing reflexes from head to toe; helping you to decompress, shed the unnecessary and revive on a physical and emotional level.

Begin by gently massaging 5 or so drops of Grow Strong Hair Oil onto the top of your scalp and then around and down from roots to tip of hair.

Give your scalp a really deep massage using tapping and kneading movements. Tie your hair back if need be and leave the oil in overnight to allow the nutrient-dense herbs time to penetrate deeply. This will strengthen and rejuvenate follicles at a cellular level and the calming oils will help promote a good nights sleep.

Next bathe in Himalayan Healing Salts for 15 minutes to allow the mineral-rich crystals, threaputic oils and rose quartz powder time to penetrate into skin. This helps ease aching bones, stimulate sluggish circulation, diminish toxins and balance frayed emotions. Once bathed, do not rise off the salts, but simply wrap yourself in a towel, and relax until bedtime. Now is a good time to practice a few breathing exercises, sit in quiet contemplation.

On waking, apply Radiance Mask & Exfoliant to face and neck to remove deep down toxins. Leave for 5 minutes and use this time to dry body brush, before washing off in the shower with water and our muslin cloth. Wash hair and body with Reawaken Hand and Body Wash. Panchakarma is Sanskrit for ‘five actions/treatments’. The actions are a vital part of achieving true health and are focused on illuminating toxins.
