As the world around us shakes off the chill of winter and welcomes the blossoming beauty of spring, our skin also undergoes a transition.

With the changing season comes new challenges and opportunities for your skincare routine so we’ve got some of our best tips for healthy-looking skin during this time.

How to Keep Skin Healthy in Spring

To maintain a healthy-looking complexion during spring, there are various lifestyle changes that you could make.

Whether that’s re-evaluating your skincare routine or introducing some more nutritious foods into your diet, it might be time to conduct a spring clean of your life to see if your skin could benefit.

Simplify your Skincare Routine

We believe simplicity is key when it comes to spring skincare, so it is a great time to declutter your beauty shelf and focus on the basics.

A gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and suncream should be your core products all year round. However, in the spring, lighter formulas are beneficial, as they will hydrate without feeling heavy or greasy.

As the weather warms up, your skin may start to produce more oil, so you may want to simplify your skincare routine and use more mattifying products.

Exfoliate the Skin

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores for a smoother, brighter appearance.

It could also improve the absorption of the skincare products that follow, helping active ingredients work their magic, and provide more effective results.

We recommend using a gentle exfoliator that is specifically designed for the face to reduce the risk of irritation.

Soothe Skin from Seasonal Allergies

For many of us, spring can be problematic due to seasonal allergies, of which puffy eyes and dark circles can be some common signs.

To help alleviate some of these symptoms, we recommend choosing products with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as aloe vera, green tea extract and niacinamide (vitamin B3).

Always use SPF

Although suncream may already be on your radar as the weather starts to warm up, you should make sure you still apply it on those more overcast spring days.

With 80% of the sun’s UV rays able to pass through the cloud layer, it’s so important to make sure you are always protecting your skin - even on overcast days.

We recommend that you ensure the bottle you choose is a broad-spectrum formula for full protection against all radiation.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Spring offers an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that are not only delicious but packed with great antioxidants and nutrients that are effective at helping to maintain a healthy complexion.

Seasonal foods such as leafy greens, carrots, peas and apricots all hold a wealth of vitamins that could benefit your overall health.

Each containing a selection of vitamins such as A, C and K, they may provide the body with antioxidants that could help improve your skin by helping to protect against inflammation during allergy season.

Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, sunflower seeds and walnuts are also good sources of vitamin E, which may help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals and UV rays.

So, as we move out of the colder months, you should be armed with some of the tips and tricks you need to adjust your skincare regimen for spring.

Although the weather might be a little nicer in spring, you might still need a helping-hand to achieve a natural sunkissed glow. We have shortlisted our best gradual tan lotions to help give you a radiant tan.
