Happy Skin on the Move

We all have busy lives. Travel, work and general life can take its toll on our skin, leaving it tired, dull and unhappy. But how do we maintain happy skin whilst we’re on the move? And how do we limit the damage caused by external environmental factors? Beauty Expert digs deeper in to the effects that travelling has on the skin and recommends some saviour products that will leave you with happy skin wherever life takes you.

What factors affect my skin when I’m travelling?

  • Tiredness
  • A change to your normal routine
  • City pollution
  • Air conditioning

Protecting skin whilst on the move…

If you’re doing overnight travel or even driving to a destination, your sleeping patterns are usually disturbed, so something you can’t plan for is rest. But try to resist the urge to reach for the coffee as the caffeine will still be kicking in far past bedtime. Instead, keep yourself topped up with water to keep your body and skin hydrated.

When travelling for business, let’s be honest, it’s unlikely that you’ll be visiting a relaxing Maldivian island (but lucky you if you are!) It’s more likely that your work will bring you to the hustle of a city centre, where pollution levels are sky high. Pollution from traffic, smoke and dust means that the particles sit on the skin, clogging pores and damaging its PH.

Ren Banish Urban Grey Collection

Expert tip: the best way to control damage from air pollution is to use a cleanser both day and night as it helps to remove impurities. Use a serum that contains antioxidants to combat free radicals caused by pollution and combine it with an SPF will also help with further damage from UVA/UVB rays.

But don’t forget about protection whilst indoors too…

It’s not always outside where your skin needs protection. Inside buildings also have damaging environmental factors. Heating and air conditioning can be very drying on the skin, drawing moisture and leaving your skin dehydrated which can cause fine lines and wrinkles.

Expert tip: Using hyaluronic acid in your skincare can slow factors that cause dehydration down. This hydrating acid holds up to 1000x its own weight in moisture and works to retain water by drawing it in from the atmosphere. When applied to the skin it grabs hold of the moisture, slowing down the natural evaporation process and helping to maintain happy skin.

Try these to protect against internal environmental factors:
