Wedding

It’s official – wedding season is upon us and we’ve already dusted off our favourite fascinators in preparation! If you’re the lucky bride-to-be with the big day on its way, or even if you’re supporting one of your best friends as a bridesmaid, the main event will be one of the most memorable times of your life. At Beauty Expert HQ we know that with cameras snapping away from every angle, it’s all eyes on the bride (okay, the groom can have his moment too), and with a lifetime to look back on your photos we’re sure you’ll want to look flawless all day long.

If like the gorgeous Kate Middleton you want to walk your own path (or aisle, should we say) and do your own makeup on the morning of the big day, then we’ve got some handy wedding makeup ideas and tips to help you along the way. We know that taking responsibility for your own makeup can be a daunting prospect on such a big day, but with a few key pointers in the right direction you’ll fool all of your guests into believing that the job is a professional one. Have a read through our top tips and prepare for the big day with BeautyExpert.com.

Start early with skin care

Some skin care products can take a few weeks for their full effects to take force, so make sure that you develop a good skin care routine with plenty of time to go. Cleanse, tone and exfoliate regularly, and keep your skin looking youthful and feeling nourished with a soothing moisturiser. Choosing the right products to apply on the day can also be critical – a lightweight moisturiser like Eve Lom TLC Radiance Cream will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day and your makeup will be much less likely to slide off.

Pick up a primer

A wedding can take you from the first rays of sunrise all the way through to the following day, so to make sure that your makeup stays put for as long as possible we’d advise to invest in a quality primer. Try Zelens Satin Primer after your moisturiser and before your makeup to keep your foundation, blush and powder in place all day long. Be sure to pay special attention to your eyes to make sure that your eyeshadow doesn’t budge.

Arm yourself with waterproof mascara

This one is a no brainer when it comes to wedding makeup ideas – your wedding will be one of the most emotional days of your life, and no one can predict when the waterworks will start. After an all-important eyelash curl, apply a waterproof mascara like Pur Minerals Big Look Waterproof Mascara so that you’re ready to let it all out!

Bride

Drop the trends

Once your wedding photos have been snapped, they’re here to stay. A flaming lip may look great for an evening out with the girls, but when you glance back at your wedding photos over the years a timeless look will win out every time. If you’re unsure which style to go for, then choose the natural look for classic beauty that will never get old – try an EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation for a natural base, and team with a basics kit from Youngblood to keep your highlighting nice and simple.

Where there is colour, let it pop

Although it’s often best to pull back on statement trends, you also need to avoid looking washed out in your photos (it’s a real balancing act!) Apply a little bit more makeup than usual on your wedding morning (but don’t go all out straight away – you can always add more) and make sure that your lips and cheeks carry enough colour to stand out against your dress. Let your eyes pop too by brightening any dark circles with a concealer or corrector like the StriVectin Clinical Corrector.

Trial your look

In the weeks leading up to your wedding, make sure that you trial your wedding makeup ideas and practise your favourite looks so that you’re fully prepared on the big day. Take pictures of your practise runs to make sure that your look will photograph well, and be conscious of the lighting – we recommend to photograph your trials in natural daylight. Try wearing a white T-shirt for your practise runs too, so that you know how your colours and shades will contrast against the white of your dress.

Always have backup

Because that’s what bridesmaids are for! Although the day will seem to fly by, your look needs to last for a long time. Make sure that your bridesmaids have emergency makeup on hand at all times for when you need to touch up after tears, food or a round of hugs – maybe best to keep a tissue or two handy as well!

Enjoy your day

No matter how much time and effort you put into your wedding makeup, your best accessory on the big day will always be your natural smile. When all of the hard work and preparation is over, it’s time for you to relax and enjoy your time in the spotlight. Remember, take a moment to step back and appreciate the people, the place and the party – the smile is sure to follow!
