Christophe robin

Here at Beauty Expert, we are big fans of Christophe Robin. From his beginnings as a 19-year-old Artistic Manager for Jean Louis David, the Parisian styling visionary developed new hair colouring techniques that would later turn the hair colouring world upside down…

Leading the way for colour, it’s thanks to Christophe Robin that women can now view hair colouring as an additional form of make-up that helps to bring out their shine. Making colour an art form by using light and contrasting colour to bring out a woman’s complexion, eyes and skin. As well as stocking a full range of his expert products on Beauty Expert, all available with free delivery, we thought it was high time we caught up with the man himself to ask him some of your burning questions.

1. What would you recommend to condition my hair and scalp after sun damage?

The Intense Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil is great option, as it offers you comfort and regenerates your scalp without weighing hair down.

2. I have just had my hair coloured before my trip away in the sun, what would you recommend to keep my colour lasting?

My Shade Variation Care products are a must have to keep hair a vibrant colour, as the masks all work to deeply nourish your hair and fix the pigments. Brunettes often complain about their colour getting washed out by sea salt and sun, and my advice for them is to use the Shade Variation Care Ash Brown after the Antioxidant Cleansing Milk with 4 oils and blueberry as this is formulated with 10% oils, antioxidant ingredients and is sulfate-free. It will also clean your hair and prevent mahogany tone in chestnut and brown hair. For those who have caramel highlights, Shade Variation in Warm Chestnut and Golden Blond is fantastic for helping you avoid your hair turning yellow and getting a brilliant shine as well as golden or chestnut tones.

3. What tips do you have to voluminise my flat hair?

Volumising products generally contain alcohol that dries your hair. It brings you volume for a few hours but intoxicates your scalp for long and weighs down your hair. For a natural and long lasting volume, you can use my range of products with rose extracts. First, apply the Delicate Volumizing Shampoo that will clean your hair and help to preserve your colour. Then use the Volumizing Conditioner on your tips and rinse it carefully. You can also use the Instant Volumizing Mist with Rose Extracts to style your hair, on roots and lengths. Dry your hair with head down, apply large scratch rolls and put some volumizing mist on the rolls, bring some heat for 1 minute then let it cool down for 10 minutes.

4. What is the best way to use hair oils without making my hair greasy?

Mineral oils weigh down your hair and stay in surface, while vegetable hair oils such as my Intense Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil  and my Lavender Oil deeply penetrate into your hair.  Apply a small quantity of oil on tips and brush your hair carefully. This way you will feed your hair that will shine and be more resistant.

5. Who has been your most inspiring client?

Definitely Catherine Deneuve, for her wonderful hair type, her grace and career.

6. What is your top hair tip for instant glamour?

A very clear side part, a minimalist low bun smoothed with my regenerating balm.

7. Who would you say has more fun: blondes or brunettes?

Both! Brunettes assume and claim their sensuality and have charm. But don’t forget, red heads are getting more and more trendy…

8. What is your favourite product to use in your range?

My Cleansing Mask with lemon is my favourite care and also my best seller. Its formula has never changed for 20 years. It cleans and deeply nourishes your hair and the colour lasts for long. I have to say that I’m very proud of my new Regenerating Balm with Prickly Pear Oil. It can be used for almost everything except washing your hair ! Magazines and women are crazy about it!

9. I want to keep my new hair colour from looking brassy, what would you advise to use to even out the tones?

The masks in my Shade Variation Care  products will help to keep your colour looking salon fresh as they will work to deeply nourish your hair and fix the pigments. For those who have caramel highlights, Shade Variations in Baby Blond and Golden Blond are fantastic for helping you avoid your hair turning yellow or brassy.

10. What made you want to start Hair dressing as a colourist?

I grew up in the middle of nowhere; there wasn’t even a hairdresser to go to! Every Sunday morning, my Mom and her friends used to meet to colour and style their hair. As a kid, I was fascinated by these meetings. They are probably the first ones who inspired me to make women feel beautiful!
