This week I have been fawning over the hairstyles from the latest catwalk  shows at S/S13 fashion week. Shiny glossy hair that wafts past you as the statuesque models stomp their way along the catwalk.

Hairstyles to gawp at or simply admire from a distance, inspiration for us mere mortals to take note and get creative. Thought up by some of the biggest names in hairdressing, the catwalk hairstyles are critical to transforming the designers creations.

There was a general theme of sleek tamed tresses, with little flares of invention and modern takes on the pony and the ballerina bun. Taking drab every styles and injecting them with a new lease of life, from the bouffant pony tail to the geometric angled low bun.

One that stood out was the sleek pony tail worn for Rochas and Jil Sander, expert hairstylist Guido Paulo used straightening balm like Fekkai Ironless Balm to get the hair silky smooth and flat to the head to ensure no fly-away hairs. He then use a single band to tie the hair with medium tension at the base of the head. For some a strand of hair was used to disguise the band of the ponytail. A great look for simplicity and if you want to class up your normal pony.

Try using Fudge Head Shine and Tigi Catwalk Hairspray to keep your pony tail slick and in place, all day long.

Gucci opted for a structured bun with a ribbon effect of hair jutting out, almost origami like. This inspirational look was created using hair extensions that were covered in gel, and left to set over night, then cut on a diagonal to create the effect of a ribbon. Luigi Murenu worked the gel set hair extensions into the buns to create a unique look.

Glamorous as always Roberto Cavalli kept hair big and wavy, offering tousled locks with a riviera feel. To achieve this effortless look, use a ghd IV Styler and Styling mousse, taking sections of hair and twisting it round the ghd’s to achieve loose waves.

Also sporting BIG hair was Lanvin; fabulous luscious long and wavy locks that made powerful and flirty statements. Using texturising spray and volume injecting mousse finished with strong set Hairpray the curls were messy and the impact breathtaking.

The variety of looks were inspiring, using retro twists and modern styles to create some great hairstyles for the new year.
